Dane Ko's Fantasies and Fugues

Pianist Dane Ko presents Fantasies and Fugues, a recital exploring the tension and convergence between two seemingly opposing musical forces: the freedom of fantasy and the rigor of fugue. Anchored by Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, the program continues this dialogue through a diverse array of musical gems: two mercurial fantasies by his son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Frederick Chopin’s enigmatic Polonaise-Fantaisie, and Friedrich Gulda’s rarely heard, jazzy Prelude and Fugue, which invites the performer to end with a free cadenza. Paying homage to his own roots, Dane also offers an improvisation on a Chinese folk song — a personal “fantasy” that weaves together spontaneity, tradition, and identity.

All concerts are admission by a donation with a suggested amount of a minimum of $20.  They also include a complimentary parking pass to the adjacent lot off Queen and Bay Street.
